The United States Agency for International Development (www.usaid.gov) is one of the foremost development agencies in the world.
USAID/Nigeria (www.usaid.gov/ng) opened its doors in 1993 with a small program that expanded dramatically following the democratic elections in 1999 into a Transition Strategy. This, in turn, evolved into the longer term, sustainable development program outlined in the USAID/Nigeria Country Strategic Plan, 2004-2009. The goal of USAID/Nigeria is to improve the social and economic well-being of Nigerians within the framework of a transparent, accountable and participatory democracy. The four program areas covered by the Mission are Democracy and Governance, Economic Growth, Health and basic education and HIV/AIDS.
Nigeria MEMS is managed by a small group of staff out of Abuja, the Federal Capital of Nigeria comprising an ex-patriate Chief of Party for Years 1-3, to be replaced with a Nigerian Chief of Party for Years 4 and 5 and a staff of Nigerian Monitoring & Evaluation Specialists and administrative support staff. Take a look at the organogram to see how the project is supported by TMG and a team of Virtual Advisors.
